Food was very good and it was served hot. We did carry out. I had the Kung Pao Chicken without MSG Fast service in ordering and pick up. Convenient location. Side door for carry out.
House of Dynasty was on my list to try for a while now and it did not disappoint. We went around 4pm after. When we enter we were the only people in the restaurant but that changed quickly and I now see why. The food was very good. Everything we had was flavorful. We ordered the pan fried dumplings, egg rolls, hunan chicken, sweet and sour chicken, wonton soup, and hot and sour soup. Everything was delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive. The server who took care of us was knowledgeable about the menu and was engaging with my 6 year old who loves to talk (bonus points for that). We had a good experience overall and cannot wait to return in the future.
Dynasty is our favorite Chinese restaurant in Alexandria. Though, as others have mentioned, prices have escalated substantially over the past 2-3 years. My favorite dishes are the chicken corn soup (served with a hefty amount of those little crispy crackers on the side), moo-shu pork and the egg rolls. The wonton soup is tasty too. We also like the lunch specials that have generous portions. A cozy and comfortable ambiance, with plenty of tables. Service is usually top-notch and attentive. Though, the next to last time we were there, our male server showed a bit of attitude and seemed more interested in sitting at a table across the restaurant chit-chatting with the people at that table. I consider that a one-off experience though, not typical of the usual Dynasty dining experience. One feature we really liked seems to have been discontinued, and that was the restaurant offering you a tiny cup of sherbet between the appetizers and the main course, perhaps to cleanse our palates. Still, we really like Dynasty and will be coming back again and again.
I came here 25 years ago when my son was smaller and we moved away and didn't get back up this way. Met a friend for lunch and we just missed the lunch deals by 8 minutes. There is a huge difference in prices and I am quite sure size. Since I only eat small portions I asked if we could order off the lunch menu and was told it wasn't possible so I asked to speak to the manager, they allowed it but I was lectured on the fact that this would not be allowed next time. I'm not sure if the waiter was having a bad day but I felt chastised several times by my questions and told him as much. Despite my waiters attitude the food was very tasty and fresh. The egg Roll not shown was very fresh and full of vegetable with three right amount of wrapping. The Hunan shrimp will be worth the drive just to have it again and my friend's eggplant was very tasty.
This place is still alive and kicking! This is the type of place where patrons have been going to forever and the staff knows all the regulars. My family has made House of Dynasty our new Lunar New Year tradition due to their ability to host large parties on a whim. The kiddos love their virgin pina coladas and chicken fried rice while the adults feast on platters of peking duck, pan fried noodles, crispy beef, shrimp in lobster sauce, and oh-so-much-more. A few things to note: - Peking duck is not spectacular but it definitely scratches the itch! - There are tons of mirrors all over the place which is basically free entertainment for little children. - They got rid of their whole fried rockfish which is a disappointment because that was definitely one of the best things on the menu. Overall this is a great spot for old-school Americanized Chinese food with a family-friendly and celebratory vibe.
Opened in 1985, this restaurant has had different owners and chefs. My wife and I haven't visited them in over a year. So with apprehension, we suggested this place for lunch to two of our friends. The four of us went on a Sunday. Lunch is served every day before 3 p.m., except on special occasions. We all got lunch combination platters. There were 15 entrees to choose from. They come with a spring roll, fried rice, and a choice of soup. The soup choices were wonton, hot and sour, chicken corn, and egg drop. I ordered a dinner size Crispy Beef dish because it was one of our favorites, and I wanted to see if it had changed. Here's what we found. 1) The hot and sour soup It had egg ribbons, tofu, chopped scallions, bamboo shoots, mushroom stems, and black woodear mushrooms. This is the type of ingredients that I look for in hot and sour soup. The broth was well-rounded and savory with some tartness and heat. Other than homemade, this is the best tasting hot and sour soup that I have found. 2) Chicken corn soup This was egg drop soup with sweet cream corn and a sparse amount of chicken meat. It had a good chicken broth flavor that was overpowered by the sweetness of the cream corn. The egg ribbons were plentiful, and the texture was good. They just need to cut back on the sweetness and add more regular corn and chicken. 3) Spring Roll It had cabbage, carrots, celery, and white meat chicken. The variety of ingredients was surprisingly pleasing because I haven't seen a combination like this since my parents sold their restaurants. The filling was seasoned well, so I could eat it without sauce. The roll was crispy and twice the size of a normal spring roll. It looked like an egg roll with a spring roll wrap. There's nothing wrong with that. More is better. This is not your typical spring roll. It is outstanding! 4) Chicken Szechuan Style It had strips of chicken, julienned carrots, julienned celery, and green onions in a brown sauce with a side of fried rice. The brown sauce was soy sauce based and slightly peppery with a hint of sweetness and garlic flavor. Since this dish was Szechuan, it should have been spicier. Nonetheless, the sauce had depth and was flavorful. The chicken and vegetables were fresh and cooked well. With a little more hot pepper oil added, this dish would be a great example of Szechuan Style done right. The textures and taste of this entree were excellent. Just get some hot pepper oil on the side. The fried rice had peas, carrots, and scrambled eggs. That was great to see! However, it was not seasoned except for a little soy sauce for color, not taste. That made it rather bland. 5) Prawns with walnuts It had medium-size breaded shrimp with candied walnuts in a thick red sauce. It came with a side of blanched broccoli and white rice. The sauce was red from tomato red food color. The flavor was a combination of chicken broth, white wine, white pepper, sugar, msg, garlic, and corn starch. It tasted like a white sauce that was slightly sweet and peppery. A well-rounded flavor profile that was good but not special. If you want just candied walnuts, they sell it as a dessert. My wife and I prefer honey walnut shrimp, which has crisper shrimp and a sauce made with mayonnaise, sweetened condensed milk, and honey. They don't have that here. 6) Crispy beef It had strips of breaded crispy beef with julienned carrots and julienned celery in a brown sauce. It came with a bowl of white rice. The sauce was sweet and tangy with flavors of soy sauce, ginger, and vinegar. Vinegar was not the best choice for tangy here. A combination of citrus juices would be better. The beef could have been crispier if there was less corn starch coating it. They didn't shake off the excess starch enough. The beef was moist and tender with a good savory flavor. Overall, this dish was okay, but it has gotten worse since we last got it. Sorry to see that. The service was attentive, responsive, and polite. The atmosphere is upscale, while the dress code can be casual. The dining room and restrooms were clean. They have a men's restroom and a women's restroom. The relaxed dining and good service from our waiter made our get-together great for conversation. Our friends enjoyed their food and were full. My wife and I had plenty of leftovers. They reheated well in a microwave. I recommend a visit if you're looking for Americanized Chinese food with flavors that ranged from above average to excellent.
I have been going to this place since I was a kid and I absolutely love it! The food is ALWAYS and I do mean ALWAYS amazing as well as the customer service! The restaurant is really just overall a great experience when dining in. I have ordered to go before and the food was still amazing. My go to is always the General Tso Shrimp and it is the best I have ever had. Every time that I have ordered the food has always fresh and did not disappoint.
